Solstice. Stillpoint. Night of creation.
Ancient memories echo from the depths of this vast womb.
Mother Earth sings the lost songs of humanity.
She beckons, calling your name.
Listening, silence fills the soul.
Heartbeat of the Mother, felt, not heard.
This is home.
~ Cosmic Time
In our lifetime, the Solstice Sun aligns with the Galactic Equator each December, ushering in a new day for humanity and the Earth. The next world of the Maya and the Hopi. A Thousand Years of Peace in the Iroquois tradition. The Aquarian Age. Satya Yuga, Age of Truth.
This year, in 2012, there’s a lot of buzz about the Solstice on December 21 because the current phase of the sacred Mayan calendar is completing.
It’s the not end of the world. The Mayan calendar refers to the end of a 5,125-year cycle that’s connected to the precession of the equinoxes. That’s a complex subject in itself, and not my focus here.
Wheels within Wheels
In my astro-spiritual inquiry, I’ve been more interested in the mysterious and wondrous way that various cosmic cycles dovetail as they come to completion. Cycles on the order of thousands, tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands of years are completing roughly at the same time, and we live in the transition period.
That alone has intrigued me for most of the past 20 years. When I finally took a look at the astrology of the so-called end date of the Mayan calendar – December 21, 2012 – the cosmic line-up in our corner of the galaxy took my breath away.
The imprint in the heavens on that day is clear. I would call it grace. The old world has come to an end. And we are infused with all the love, support and wisdom of the cosmos as we embark together on a new trajectory and create the next world together.
December 21, 2012
As above, so below.
On December 21, 2012, as our local Sun transits the Galactic Equator, the heavens smile. For those who know astrology, here’s the chart:
Venus, the priestess, initiates the sequence, driving the chart from the degree of the total lunar eclipse just a few weeks ago, on November 28. Issues (and people, perhaps) that surfaced then are revisited and energized by the goddess of love and beauty.
Divine mind is known through Jupiter, which sits at the top of a rare aspect pattern called a Yod (a Hebrew fire letter than means the finger or hand of God). The Yod is a triangular pattern with Pluto and Saturn forming the base and Jupiter conjunct the fixed star Aldebaran at the apex of the triangle. To me, this configuration is a gateway allowing the cosmic vision of a new society to be imprinted at the Solstice. The vision will be architected and built throughout the current disintegration phase and beyond. Venus opposing Jupiter bisects the Yod, fueling needed reform through divine love.
Look to Jupiter
Wherever transiting Jupiter at 9 Gemini falls in your natal chart, you may be guided to mastermind and perhaps lead change on a personal, community and/or global level, as inspired by the feminine creative principle embodied by Venus in Sagittarius.
Planetary trines and sextiles facilitate transformation while squares provide the raw combative power to drive needed change. Oppositions bring balance and reform.
The ongoing Uranus-Pluto square (2012-2015 – see my previous posts for details) is explosive, while the Pluto-Saturn sextile urges persistent, karmically driven change at the most fundamental level. Venus trines Uranus, which squares Pluto and the Solstice Sun. Saturn trines Chiron and squares Jupiter.
Mercury in Sagittarius trines the Aries Moon fleetingly, at dawn, imparting a sense of urgency, a feeling of “let’s get on with it already!”
There’s a lot happening in the heavens at the dawn of the next age, but it doesn’t look like the end of the world to me. What do you think?
A poet friend of mine in New Mexico, Stewart Warren, has been signing his e-mails this way: “2012: For good completions – for new beginnings.” I love his way of expressing the “in-between” stage so many of us are experiencing at this juncture.
Making peace with the past while welcoming the future feels natural and appropriate in this sacred Solstice season. What have you created in 2012? What are your accomplishments? How have your life and your world been transformed? What are you leaving behind? How are you being asked to focus your energy and contribute now?
Rest and gather strength within the Solstice womb, breathe with the rhythms of creation. Hold your loved ones close, and celebrate.
My take on 2012…
Mary Plumb has an excellent article in The Mountain Astrologer about year-end 2012:
